Going Social

With two kids in college, it was inevitable that I would wind up with accounts on some of the popular social networking sites on the Internet. It started when my kids were a lot younger and I signed up for a MySpace account just to keep tabs on what they were doing online, like the good Dad that I am.

After they left MySpace behind for sites like Facebook, I followed suit. But I also found a few other sites that piqued my interest and signed up. Over the many years that I’ve been online, I’ve accumulated a number of these accounts. Some were just a one time thing while some have actually come in handy. Mimicking the haphazard way that I’ve signed up to these sites, my user/login names for these sites are all over the place.

Now I’m attempting to consolidate all my different accounts, just so I can remember who I am! I’ve placed links to the sites I use the most over on my Contact page, so feel free to browse though them all you’d like. I believe you need to have an account to see my profile on Facebook and LinkedIn, but otherwise you should be able to check out the rest of my accounts. I hope you find them as interesting as I have.

Spacing Out

Today marks the 50th anniversary of the signing of the National Aeronautics and Space Act, the Act of Congress that created NASA. Growing up in the Sixties and Seventies, I’d always been fascinated with the space program. Over the years my interest would rise and shrink, but the last few years have kept my attention thanks to some of the more exciting projects that have been in the news. With all of the attention to Mars, the talk of heading back to the Moon and all the other projects that only a space geek would appreciate, NASA’s been doing its best to keep this space geek happy.

Along the same vein, Virgin Galactic rolled out White Knight Two yesterday. The aircraft is the mothership portion of its commercial spaceliner venture, which is booking passengers to launch them into suborbital flight at $200,000 per trip. Once I hit the lottery, I’m booking my ticket.

My Bookshelf

The Last Colony by John Scalzi comes out in paperback today, and I’ll be heading over to the bookstore on the way home to pick it up. I meant to grab it from Amazon, but forgot. The hardback came out last year, but hardbacked books just aren’t in my budget. And I won’t be offended if you read that as “too cheap to buy hardbacks,” because that’s the reason they’re not in my budget. Anyway, I’ve been looking forward to this one, so I suspect I’ll be up past my bedtime for the next few days…

One Small Step…

It’s A Blog!

Hi there. I know that I’m talking to myself right now, but my hope is that if someone decides to comb through the archives of this site down the road they’ll come across this post, even if the only reason is that it’s Post Number One.

I’m not going to attempt to come up with any sort of profound first post, mostly because I’m not really the profound type. I have no illusions of turning into the next blogging millionaire or becoming the next Internet sensation. I just had this site that I hadn’t been using and after setting up a web site for my 30 year high school reunion, got the idea to give it a whirl over here.

I’m not quite sure what I’ll be writing about, and I have absolutely no idea if anyone would possibly be interested in reading anything I write. So let’s just call this thing my little experiment and if it works out, great. If not, well, I can live with that, too.

And if anyone finds this and decides to stick around, welcome aboard!
